Quantity Surveyor | Civil Engineering | Birmingham

The role:
You will provide commercial support to project teams, maintaining commercial information and ensuring compliance with contractual requirements. You will liaise with customer representatives and other third parties on commercial issues including agreement of variations, claims and any additional payments.

Reporting:

  • Ensure robust accurate and timely cost and value reporting at both project and business level.
  • Carry out cost management including forecasting.
  • Update the monthly CVR, cost and commercial plans.

Processes:

  • Help ensure that internal commercial processes are adhered to across the business unit.
  • Actively seek to improve processes and procedures.

External relationships:

  • Help ensure that any main contracts entered have terms and conditions that are appropriate for the company, with commercial risks identified.
  • Ensure that the supply chain is engaged appropriately with the correct contract terms and conditions.
  • Be responsible for subcontract letting, negotiation and financial accounting.
  • Prepare applications for payment.
  • Liaise with clients on commercial issues.

Internal relationships:

  • Contribute towards effective interactions between the Commercial Team and the operational site teams.
  • Work with site management to forecast predicted spend and cash recovery and ensure that both are kept in line with target.
  • Share best practices with other and be proactive in advising site teams on costs and management of them.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience in the construction industry.
  • HND / Degree (or equivalent in Quantity Surveying)
  • Familiarity with ICE/NEC forms of contract and knowledge of Construction Law.
  • Previous experience in commercial management and procurement of subcontractors.
  • Ability to demonstrate a good knowledge of monthly reporting and earned value analysis.
  • Have knowledge and experience in estimation and cost analysis.
