The School and Role

ABC Teachers are seeking a dedicated and skilled Teaching Assistant to support a hearing-impaired student at a thriving secondary school in Selly Oak. This long-term supply role involves working part-time, supporting the student through their GCSEs, and ensuring they have the support needed to achieve their potential. This inclusive and high-achieving secondary school, located in the heart of Selly Oak, prides itself on its supportive environment and commitment to student success. With a strong focus on inclusivity and tailored learning, the school provides an exceptional setting for both staff and students to thrive.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide one-to-one support to a hearing-impaired student.
  • Use British Sign Language (BSL) to facilitate communication and learning.
  • Collaborate with teachers to adapt lesson materials and support classroom activities.
  • Assist with exam preparation and coursework, ensuring the student is fully engaged and confident in their studies.

 

Requirements

The successful Teaching Assistant will have;

  • Proven experience as a Teaching Assistant, ideally within a secondary school setting.
  • Proficiency in British Sign Language (BSL) (Level 2 or higher preferred).
  • A genuine passion for helping students overcome barriers to learning.
  • Eligibility to work in the UK and possession of an Enhanced DBS check on the update service, or willingness to obtain one.
  • Ability to obtain suitable references, a valid DBS Check and hold the Right to Work in the UK (ABC Teachers do not offer sponsorship)

*All staff we register will undertake thorough interviewing and referencing checks and hold, or be prepared to undergo, an Enhanced DBS check that must be registered on the Update Service.
