Community Support Worker

Location: Covering Birmingham but base is in Edgbaston

Salary: £13.00 - £14.00 per hour + paid mileage at 45p per mile & benefits

Hours: Monday to Thursday - 8am to 4pm and Friday 8am to 3pm - 37.5 hours

Time Recruitment are exclusively working with a large charity who have been in operation for over 40 years delivering community services across Birmingham; and we are aiding the search for an exceptional Community Support Worker.

You will work within the social work department, lunch club, singing group and assist your clients with classes and trips and engaging your clients in the community' ensuring they can access benefits they require and helping with housing support and day to day guidance, care and support.

Skills and Knowledge required for the Community Support Worker role:

- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

- Ability to work unsupervised - lone working alongside a team of 4

- Skills around empathy and understanding

- Good listening skills with the ability to reflect

- Organised with good report-writing skills

- I.T. Skills necessary

- Team working

- Understand the importance of confidentiality

- Flexible

- Car Driver with your own vehicle/suitable insurance to cover usage for work

Workload for the Community Support Worker role:

- You will hold a caseload of approximately 20 people

- Ability to build and maintain relationships with other professionals, i.e. G.P.'s, Social Workers and other multi-disciplinary professionals

- Hospital visiting

- Have an understanding and knowledge of benefits, in particular Attendance Allowance, Jobseekers, ESA, Pension Credit and those appertaining to the citizens that we work with

- Liaise closely with families/friends

- Arrange care at home support when required

- Awareness of potential risks to citizens and competently complete risk assessments

- Attend review meetings

- Follow through with documentation and reporting

- Understanding of benefits for prospective residents around residential care, the threshold limit, and the process for funding

- Understanding of the contract process with local authorities

- Support citizens within the community to attend social functions, lunch clubs that are available and occasionally provide transport

- To support citizens within the community to make applications for financial support if appropriate, using the forms provided

- Encourage any service users to attend Monday luncheon club

- When available, attend the club and support/help run the service

- Support the team to ensure outings and social events are safely run and successful

- Provide transport where required

- Be able to support some citizens who will require the use of a wheelchair during the trip

The ideal candidate for the Community Support Worker role would have several years' experience/background in care or come from the following background:

- Domiciliary care/community care

- Elderly care knowledge

- Housing support experience

- Activity co-ordinating
