Role:               Domestic Abuse Housing Support Worker

Based:            Birmingham

Rate of Pay:    £18 – 19 per hour (dependant on experience)

Start Date:      Immediate – January 2025

Duration:        6-month contract

Hours:             35 hours/ Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm/4.30pm

Hybrid:            3 days in the office and 2 from home

 

Supporting Futures are recruiting on behalf of an inspirational national charity who have over 50 years’ experience supporting people to rebuild their lives and empowering positive change.

 

They are looking for a Housing Solutions Worker (Domestic Abuse) to provide drop in housing advice and crisis management support to victims of domestic abuse.   

 

The service plays a key role in supporting the Council to meet its homelessness prevention and relief duties in accordance with the Housing Act 1996 as amended by the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017

 

Synopsis of duties:

 

  • Carrying out housing need assessments and conduct extensive investigations to fully understand and respond to survivors housing and additional support needs
  • Focusing on homeless prevention work and use a range of prevention tools to maximise opportunities to prevent and relieve homelessness
  • Managing a caseload of survivors/families affected by domestic abuse, supporting them to find housing appropriate to their needs (including Temporary Accommodation) and support to access to statutory and other community services as necessary
  • Supporting service users who attend drop-in sessions and delivering expert advice and assistance on homelessness within a domestic abuse context
  • Undertaking initial inquiries into a person’s eligibility and homelessness/threatened with homelessness status and making appropriate referrals
  • Developing, updating and reviewing Personal Housing Plans (PHP) with survivors. Set out and agree on realistic tasks with the survivor and ensure the PHP remains relevant whilst homelessness prevention and relief duties are owed
  • Delivering expert homelessness advice, information and assistance on a broad range of complex housing problems
  • Distinguishing customers entitlement to benefits and help customers to apply for financial support i.e. Homeless Prevention Fund, housing benefit.

  • Candidates must have a strong working knowledge of the Housing Act and all relevant Housing Legislation
  • Strong working knowledge of and/ or understanding of domestic abuse   
  • Experience within the field of domestic abuse, housing options, homelessness and/ housing support
