Progress Teachers is looking for a compassionate and dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to support students aged 11-16 in a mainstream secondary school setting. This is a fantastic opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of young people, including refugee students who may face behavioural challenges and language barriers.
Key Responsibilities:
- Work 1:1 and in small groups with students who have special educational needs (SEN), providing tailored support based on individual needs.
- Assist students with behavioural, social, and emotional difficulties to help them engage with their learning.
- Support refugee students with settling into the school environment, overcoming language barriers, and managing behavioural challenges.
- Assist in the development and implementation of Education, Health, and Care Plans (EHCPs), ensuring that they are followed and adapted as necessary.
- Work closely with teachers, SENCOs, and external agencies to ensure the best outcomes for the students.
- Provide feedback to teaching staff and parents/guardians on student progress and areas for development.
About You:
- Previous experience working as a Teaching Assistant or in a similar role, preferably within a SEN environment.
- Experience with behavioural management and de-escalation techniques.
- Understanding of the challenges faced by refugee students and a passion for supporting them.
- Ability to complete and manage EHCPs effectively.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to build rapport with students, parents, and staff.
- A calm, patient, and empathetic approach.
Requirements:
- Enhanced DBS check (or willing to undergo the process).
- Right to work in the UK.
- Relevant qualifications (e.g., Level 2/3 Supporting Teaching and Learning or equivalent) are desirable but not essential.
