The School and Role 

The school is a Special Educational Needs School catering for students with Severe and Profound Learning Disabilities of all ages. All students have an Education Health Care Plan and an Individual Support Plan to aid the understanding of their needs and ensure that the right support is provided. The purpose of the role is to support the teaching staff in the development and education of pupils including the provision of specialist skills as appropriate.  

Duties encompass supporting individual or group activities for children, contributing to their overall well-being, and assisting those with special needs, including sensory and/or physical impairments, learning difficulties, and behavioural, emotional, or social development needs. Alongside pupils you will be expected to support the teacher(s) in planning, delivering, and evaluating learning activities.  

The position includes organizing effective learning environments, maintaining records, supporting literacy and numeracy activities, ensuring pupil safety, contributing to the management of behaviour, undertaking routine marking, and providing clerical/administrative support. Individuals in this role bear the responsibility of safeguarding the welfare of children and young people, observing Health and Safety protocols, participating in professional development, and adhering to the school's ethos, vision, and aims. 

The desired Lesson Support Assistant will have;  

  • A Minimum of 1-year experience in a Special Educational Needs Setting, or personal experience with SEN Support.  

  • A DBS on the update service, or willingness to undergo a DBS Check.  

  • A passion for supporting and caring for young people with physical and learning disabilities.  

  • An Ability to work individually and take a proactive approach to student care and learning.
