Social Worker - Unaccompanied Asylum-Seeking ChildrenBirmingham Children's Trust£33.30 per hour

Birmingham Children's Trust is seeking experienced Social Workers to join their dedicated team supporting Unaccompanied Asylum-Seeking Children (UASC). Due to a national increase in UASC, Birmingham are expanding their capacity to ensure these vulnerable young people receive the care and support they need.

The UK Border Agency defines UASC as children applying for asylum independently, separated from both parents, and without the care of a legal or customary adult. Birmingham's statutory responsibility is to assess and support these children, primarily within the children in care system.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct comprehensive assessments of UASC's needs.
  • Develop and implement care plans tailored to individual circumstances.
  • Work collaboratively with other agencies and professionals involved in the child's care.
  • Advocate for the best interests of the child.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date case records.
  • Participate in regular supervision and team meetings.

Essential Requirements:

  • Social Work qualification (Degree in Social Work or equivalent)
  • Social Work England registration
  • Experience working with vulnerable children
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Desirable Requirements:

  • Substantial experience supporting unaccompanied children as children in care.
  • Experience working with asylum seekers.
