Overview
Youth Workers in schools provide vital support, guidance, and mentorship to young people, typically adolescents, during their formative years. They act as a bridge between students, teachers, and families, fostering positive relationships and creating a safe space for self-expression. By addressing challenges such as academic struggles, social pressures, and mental health concerns, Youth Workers help students develop essential life skills, resilience, and self-confidence, contributing to their holistic growth and well-being.

The Job

  • Provide one-on-one mentoring, group sessions, and workshops to support students facing challenges such as behavioural or emotional difficulties.
  • Work closely with teachers and parents to develop strategies for student success.
  • Address students' academic, social, and personal needs through targeted interventions.
  • Create a safe and supportive environment where students feel empowered to express themselves.
  • Act as a positive role model, fostering resilience, self-confidence, and essential life skills in students.


The School

  • Based in a Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) in Birmingham, dedicated to supporting students with behavioural or social-emotional difficulties.
  • Provides tailored educational programs and interventions to help students thrive academically and personally.
  • Focuses on holistic development, empowering students to transition back into mainstream education or pursue alternative pathways successfully.
  • Offers a nurturing and inclusive environment with specialized resources and support systems.

Requirements

  • Experience: Minimum of 1-year experience in a care, residential, or educational setting.
  • Passion: Demonstrated enthusiasm for supporting children and adults with behavioural challenges or SEND.
  • Safeguarding Knowledge: Strong understanding and awareness of safeguarding practices.
  • Therapeutic Background: Experience or knowledge of therapeutic care or practices is desirable.
  • Proactivity: Ability to work independently, showing initiative in student care and learning.
