Broster Buchanan are partnered with a global business within the food industry with a turnover of £8Bn+ annually who are looking for a Software Development Manager to join and manage the overall technology landscape and team of 22. This would suit someone with a strong software development background, ideally within similar medium/large scale companies, looking for their next career move.The role offers flexible working with 2 days onsite in Birmingham per week and the rest remote, with a need to travel to Dublin, Spain and Portugal 1-2 times per month. On offer is a strong package with a basic salary of £80k - £90k + £5k car allowance + up to 20% annual bonus.Responsibilities:
  • Oversee the entire software development process, from assessment, design to beta testing. They will be responsible for completing development efforts based on Change Requests, including ensuring requirements and dependencies are clear in the requests.
  • Ensure appropriate capacity, skills and training plans are in place for the development team, as well as developing a customer focussed team culture.
  • Responsible for the quality of the software, from code architecture to the end-user experience. They conduct code reviews to ensure that the development is completed in a consistent manner across the team, meets regulatory and compliance requirements and documentation is maintained.
  • Works closely with the application support teams to ensure issues/bugs are triaged and timely fixes or workarounds are implemented. 
  • Work closely with the DevOps team to ensure quality and timely releases of new software and associated release notes.  
  • Drive innovation to ensure that the latest development methodologies are leveraged by the team.
  • Act as the subject matter expert on all things software development related, advising the IT Director and IT Management on Software Development initiatives.
Requirements:
  • A proven track record of delivering high quality software solutions on time and within budget, coupled with experience managing medium to large development teams
  • Extensive knowledge of software development methodologies, theories, practices, and tools
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build collaborative relationships across all organizational levels and departments
  • Adept at balancing multiple priorities and requirements in a complex business environment
  • Strong communication skills, enabling alignment with both internal and external stakeholders
  • 5-10+ years of leadership experience in software development, particularly with a low-code environment (Outsystems preferred)
  • Experience in DevOps is an advantage 
  • Experience with software solutions tailored for B2B environments, ranging from small businesses to enterprise customers
  • Food (or similar) industry experience would be advantageous
