As a 1:1 SEND Teaching Assistant, you will provide personalized support to a student with Autism, and moderate learning difficulties helping them to access the curriculum and fully engage in school life. You will work closely with the class teacher, SENCO, and other professionals to implement tailored learning strategies and interventions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide individualised support to a student with SEND, ensuring their academic, social, and emotional needs are met.
  • Assist in the planning and delivery of lessons and activities, adapting resources to suit the student’s needs.
  • Monitor the student’s progress and provide regular feedback to the class teacher and SENCO.
  • Implement behaviour management strategies to support the student’s engagement and participation.
  • Facilitate the student’s inclusion in all aspects of school life, including classroom activities, social interactions, and extracurricular events.
  • Communicate effectively with parents/guardians, keeping them informed of the student’s progress and any concerns.
  • Collaborate with external professionals (e.g., speech and language therapists, educational psychologists) as needed.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Experience working with children, particularly those with SEND.
  • A relevant qualification in education or special educational needs (e.g., Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant qualification).
  • Patience, empathy, and a positive attitude.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • The ability to adapt learning materials and strategies to meet individual needs.
  • An understanding of safeguarding and child protection.
