As a 1:1 Mentor, you will provide individualised support to a specific child or children with SEND, helping them to access the curriculum, develop social skills, and achieve their full potential. You will work closely with teachers, parents, and other professionals to ensure that the student’s needs are met effectively.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide tailored support to a child with SEND, adapting strategies to meet their specific needs.
- Assist in the implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and behaviour management plans.
- Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment.
- Help the child with daily activities, both academic and non-academic, ensuring they are engaged and motivated.
- Monitor and record the child's progress, providing regular feedback to teachers and parents.
- Work collaboratively with the SENDCo (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Coordinator), teachers, and other staff members.
- Promote the child’s independence, confidence, and social integration within the school.
Person Specification:
- Essential:
- Experience working with children with SEND, particularly in a primary school setting.
- Understanding of various special educational needs and the ability to adapt approaches accordingly.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with children, parents, and staff.
- Patience, empathy, and a caring attitude.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
