Promote Good Outcomes for Young Learners with Speech, Language and Communication Needs! Join us as a Makaton-trained Learning Support Practitioner.

The Role:
As a Makaton Trained Learning Support Practitioner, you will play a key role in supporting children with communication difficulties. Working alongside teachers and SEN coordinators, you will provide tailored support to students with learning needs, particularly those who benefit from using Makaton as a means of communication.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-on-one or group support to students using Makaton to aid communication.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of Educational Health Care Plans (EHCPs) tailored to students specific needs.
  • Foster an inclusive and supportive learning environment, ensuring children feel valued and respected.
  • Work closely with the teaching staff, SEN coordinators, and other professionals to support the educational and social development of the children.
  • Monitor and report on student progress, contributing to regular reviews and assessments.
  • Support children during classroom activities, transitions, and other school routines.
  • Encourage independence and help students build confidence in their abilities.

What Were Looking For:

  • Makaton certification or substantial experience using Makaton in a school or educational setting.
  • Experience working with children with SEN, particularly in speech, language, and communication needs (SLCN).
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Patience, empathy, and a passion for helping children with additional needs.
  • Ability to work effectively within a team as well as independently.
  • Understanding of safeguarding and child protection protocols.
