TEMPORARY VACANCY – Summer Term
About the Role
We are seeking a qualified SEND Teacher to join a specialist educational setting in Birmingham for the Summer term. The successful candidate will support students with complex autism and proactively manage behaviours of concern. This role involves leading a class with 4 Teaching Assistants, ensuring that learners receive high-quality, tailored education in a nurturing environment. The students are working towards Early Learning Goals, with many at P6/P7 level.
The classroom is set up similarly to an EYFS environment, with continuous provision and various learning stations. All students have an Education, Health, and Care Plan (EHCP) or a Statement of Special Educational Need.
Key Responsibilities
• Lead and support students with complex autism working towards Early Learning Goals• Supervise and support 4 Teaching Assistants to ensure effective learning delivery• Implement behaviour management strategies, focusing on resolution and reflection• Develop and deliver creative, engaging lessons tailored to the individual needs of each student• Provide regular assessment and feedback on student progress• Contribute to students' Individual Education Plans (IEPs)• Collaborate with other professionals, parents, and carers to support students' development• Adhere to safeguarding protocols and maintain a safe, inclusive learning environment• Participate in staff meetings, training, and professional development activities
Essential Experience & Skills
• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)• Minimum of 2 years’ experience working with children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASC)• Strong understanding of behaviour management techniques and de-escalation strategies• Experience working in SEND or early years settings• Ability to work collaboratively within a team and communicate effectively with staff, parents, and professionals• Knowledge of safeguarding and child protection procedures• Excellent communication skills, empathy, and resilience
