Engineer & Jig Maker | Birmingham | Monday – Friday 8am till 4.30pm | £28,000 per annum

Our client operates from ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 accredited multiple sites in Birmingham, West Midlands and Bordon, Hampshire and has over 50 years’ experience in electropolishing and other surface treatment processes and, when taking into consideration the differing requirements from sector to sector, they are able to offer a variety of solutions in cleaning, maintenance and other metal surface treatments.

In this role, you will carry out jig and equipment manufacture and repair, factory maintenance and general engineering duties.

Are you the right person for the job?

  • Minimum of Grade C in GCSE Maths and English or equivalent
  • Good command of spoken and written English 
  • Ability to work from drawings and diagrams
  • TIG Welding Qualification
  • Fork Lift Truck Driving Certificate (training can be provided)
  • Oxy Fuel Gas System Inspection (training can be provided)
  • General Engineering Manufacture skills – including cutting, bending, grinding and assembly
  • Operation Engineering Machines qualification – including hand tools, grinder, pedestal drill, overhead crane

What will your role look like?

  • Manufacture of all jigs for sub-contract department working with mainly stainless steel, copper, titanium and some mild steel
  • Manufacture of equipment for customers when required liaising with Group Engineering Director
  • Repair, testing and maintenance activities
  • Maintenance of records
  • Ensure all correct PPE is worn at all times as required by Health & Safety procedures
  • Adhere to Purchasing Process for obtaining raw materials etc
  • Completion of Jig/Equipment Request forms for costing purposes
  • Annual Inspection of Oxy Fuel Gas System in workshop
  • Carry out monthly Workshop Inspection and report any issues to management
  • Assist in in-house and on-site pickling and electropolishing when required
  • Carry out onsite duties when required, which may include overnight work and/or staying onsite
  • Control of equipment and materials allocated
  • Ensure the highest standards of quality and work/rest area housekeeping
  • Identify quality/production issues where necessary
  • Conduct working practices within the company’s Quality/Environmental/Health & Safety Management processes and procedures
  • Ensure all processes and procedures set are followed as documented by the company’s management system to achieve the output of expected quality, environmental and health and safety requirements
  • Support the company to achieve high levels of customer satisfaction
  • Manage waste streams including waste segregation requirements
  • Aid in the future development of the Quality/Environmental/Health & Safety Systems
  • General duties as required
