Principal Transport Planner
My client is a leading consultancy renowned for its integrated approach to Transport Planning and Highways Design. With established offices in Gateshead, Tyne & Wear, and Fleet, Hampshire, the company is expanding to a new office in Birmingham, enhancing their ability to serve a wide array of public and private sector clients, including major commercial developers across the UK. With a track record of delivering successful outcomes on high-profile projects, the company brings expertise in development transport planning, S278/38 highways scheme design, drainage, environmental planning, and project implementation.

They are now seeking a seasoned Principal Transport Planner to join the Birmingham team. In this key role, you will oversee and manage transport planning for a range of projects, ensuring high-quality statements and plans are delivered on time and within budget. Main Duties:
路Prepare Transport Assessments, Transport Statements, and Travel Plans, with coordination as required.
路Create and present technical data and drawings.
路Conduct junction capacity assessments using ARCADY, PICADY, and LINSIG.
路Liaise with clients, contractors, and local/national authorities.
路Ensure tasks are delivered on time and within budget.
路Review work quality and accuracy, particularly for junior team members.
路Collaborate within the team and support junior staff in developing technical knowledge.
路Support Team Leaders in advising clients on Highways & Transport matters, from feasibility work to preliminary guidance.
路Conduct site appraisals/visits, design surveys, and contribute to written reports and presentations.
路Maintain up-to-date project files and assist with related tasks as required by Team Leaders.
路Play an active role in establishing and growing the Birmingham Office.
Requirements:
Education & Experience:
路Degree in Transport Planning, Geography, Civil Engineering, or related field.
路4+ years of experience with UK Transport Planning standards and processes.
路Member of the Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation (MCIHT).
Technical Skills:
路Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office.
路Strong numeracy skills, with solid spreadsheet capabilities.
路Knowledge of AutoCAD (desirable).
路Proficiency with ARCADY, PICADY, and LINSIG.
Competencies:
路Strong analytical skills and ability to communicate findings effectively.
路Skilled in numerical work, with high attention to detail.
路Confident verbal and written communication.
路Commercial awareness and effective problem-solving abilities.
路Excellent interpersonal skills, self-motivation, and workload management.
