Aston Students Union (SU) is an independent charity dedicated to enriching the lives of Aston University students. Our mission is to provide top-tier services, support, and opportunities through a wide range of activities, from over 100 student societies to essential advice services.

Led by a dynamic team of elected student officers and supported by dedicated staff, Aston SU is the heart of campus life, committed to fostering a vibrant and inclusive student community.


The Role

In this role, you will play a key position in supporting and developing our diverse range of student-led societies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support and develop a wide range of student societies and project groups
  • Organise and facilitate events and activities for student volunteers
  • Coordinate induction and ongoing training for society committee members
  • Promote the growth and sustainability of student societies, including the creation of new groups
  • Ensure societies adhere to sound financial practices in line with Union procedures
  • Manage society-related content on the Student Union website, ensuring accuracy and relevance
  • Monitor and facilitate society events, trips, and activities, ensuring compliance with Health & Safety protocols
  • Analyse membership data to identify opportunities for development
  • Promote and recognise the achievements of student societies, helping students translate their experiences into employability credentials
  • To staff the SU helpdesk, providing face to face support to student leaders and volunteers

  • Experience working with diverse communities
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team

  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including occasional events outside standard working hours

Desirable Experience:

  • Previous experience in a student union or similar organisation
  • Experience in student activities or working with elected representatives
  • Experience in a higher education setting or collaborating with external partners
