The Role:

As the Head of MFL, you will oversee the Modern Foreign Languages department, ensuring the effective delivery of French, Spanish, and other languages across Key Stages 3, 4, and 5. You will provide leadership, manage the MFL curriculum, and inspire both students and staff to engage fully with the study of foreign languages. This is an excellent role for an experienced MFL Teacher ready to take on a leadership position or an established Head of MFL seeking a new challenge.



Key Responsibilities:

  • Leading the MFL department and teaching Modern Foreign Languages to students aged 11 to 18
  • Overseeing the planning, delivery, and assessment of MFL at Key Stages 3, 4, and 5
  • Managing and supporting a team of MFL teachers to ensure high-quality teaching and learning
  • Developing and enhancing the MFL curriculum to promote student engagement and academic success
  • Preparing students for GCSE and A-Level language exams and ensuring high levels of achievement
  • Leading departmental meetings, overseeing progress data, and providing support to individual staff members
  • Encouraging the uptake of languages at GCSE and A-Level and promoting cultural awareness


Essential Requirements:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
  • A degree in Modern Foreign Languages or a related subject
  • Extensive experience teaching MFL at secondary level, ideally with leadership experience
  • Expertise in at least one language, such as French or Spanish (both desirable)
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organisational skills
  • A passion for languages and the ability to inspire both students and staff
