CSS Recruitment and Training are looking for a Quantity Surveyor (Civils and Groundworks background - Commercial).

Salary is negotiable and packages can be discussed.

Main siteresponsible for is in Hertfordshire.

As the Quantity Surveyor you will manageall costs relating to projects from initial inquiry and estimate through to when the build is in progress to final costs.

Also ensurethat costs/ risks are minimised and enhance value for money, whilst ensuring that the Company is achieving required standards and quality. Manage any variations to the contract.

Understand and adhere to statutory building regulations. Assist the Company to realise its Mission Statement and values particularly in relation to safety and welfare.

Key tasks:

  • Understand and apply safety principles on-site and in company projects.
  • Support the Safety Director and team in implementing safety policies.
  • Address safety concerns promptly with the team's support.
  • Prepare/review tenders with estimators, ensuring client requirements and value engineering.
  • Provide early cost advice on variations, ensuring only authorized changes.
  • Advise on construction issues, drawings, and ensure up-to-date project information.
  • Identify and address commercial risks.
  • Understand procurement's impact on job cost/performance.
  • Conduct cost analysis with buyers and advise on procurement/cost control.
  • Value completed work and ensure timely payments.
  • Manage cash flow and retention payments.
  • Build strong relationships with clients and production staff.
  • Allocate work to subcontractors and assist with procurement.
  • Have knowledge of various construction contracts.
  • Pursue ongoing personal development.
  • Assist in developing assistants/trainees.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Key Results:

  • Accurately measure site works for value recovery and cost minimization.
  • Develop quantity surveying skills in residential groundworks.
  • Optimize IT use, especially Excel and relevant company software.
  • Accurately value subcontract works and oversee payments.
  • Conduct site meetings and take notes.
  • Agree on subcontract final accounts and recover losses.
  • Maintain professional standards and relationships, enhancing the company's reputation.
  • Ensure effective communication internally and externally.
  • Gradually take on more responsibility with guidance.
  • Manage designated trainees or assistants.
  • Report to Commercial Director.

What You Need:

Education: Minimum 7 GCSEs (A-C / 5-9), including Maths and English.

PC Skills: Proficiency in Excel.

Numerical Skills: Strong mathematical ability.

Interpersonal Skills: Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.

Data Skills: Skilled in gathering and interpreting data.

Leadership: Demonstrated leadership abilities.

Contract Knowledge: General understanding of construction contractual terms.

Experience: Minimum 3 years as a Trainee or Assistant Quantity Surveyor.

Reporting: Ability to produce cost value reports and make informed decisions.

Reasoning: Good general reasoning ability and quick learner.

Communication: Effective written and verbal communicator.

Problem-Solving: Ability to identify and resolve issues efficiently.

Attention to Detail: High level of accuracy and attention to detail.

Confidentiality: Maintain high levels of confidentiality and discretion.

Teamwork: Resilient, focused, and a team player.

Relationships: Ability to establish and build positive relationships.
