About the role:
As the Senior Management Accountant, you will play a key role in delivering accurate and insightful financial reporting, ensuring robust financial controls and compliance. Reporting to the Senior Finance Manager, you will focus on the preparation of management accounts, full balance sheet reconciliations, and variance analysis. This role is integral to maintaining the integrity of financial data and supporting operational and strategic decision-making.
Key responsibilities:
- Management Accounts Preparation: Produce accurate and timely monthly management accounts, including detailed variance analysis and commentary
- Balance Sheet Reconciliations: Complete full balance sheet reconciliations each month, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial data
- Financial Reporting: Prepare and deliver financial reports to senior management, providing key insights into business performance
- Variance Analysis: Investigate and explain variances between actuals and budgets, collaborating with operational teams to ensure alignment
- Process Improvement: Identify and implement improvements to financial processes, enhancing accuracy and efficiency
- Compliance: Ensure all financial reporting adheres to internal controls, company policies, and relevant accounting standards
- Collaboration: Work closely with operational teams to ensure financial data reflects business activities accurately
- Team Support: Mentor and support junior finance team members, fostering a collaborative and high-performing finance function
- Ad Hoc Projects: Support the Senior Finance Manager with specific tasks and projects, including systems implementation and process optimisation

Essential:
- Proven experience in a management accounting role, ideally within a multi-site or retail environment
- Strong understanding of management accounting principles, including balance sheet reconciliations and variance analysis
- Proficiency in financial systems and advanced Excel skills; experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 is advantageous
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and accuracy
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, capable of collaborating across all levels of the business
- Ability to work under pressure, managing multiple priorities and meeting tight deadlines
Good To Have:
- Professional accounting qualification (e.g., ACCA, CIMA, ACA)
- Experience in process improvement and financial systems optimisation
- Knowledge of financial reporting for retail or multi-site operations
