Teaching Assistant

We are seeking Teaching Assistants to join our Special Educational Needs provision teams in both primary and secondary settings in Blackburn. As a Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting students with a range of educational needs including Social, Emotional and Mental Health, Special Educational Needs and Disabilities, and behavioural challenges.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide one-to-one and small group support to students with diverse learning needs
  • Implement behaviour management strategies consistently and effectively
  • Assist class teachers in delivering differentiated learning activities
  • Support students' personal, social, and emotional development
  • Help maintain a safe, structured, and positive learning environment
  • Record student progress and contribute to Individual Education Plans (IEPs)
  • Collaborate with teachers, SENCOs, and other professionals
Required Qualifications and Skills
  • Experience working with children or young people (educational setting preferred)
  • Understanding of SEN and inclusive education principles
  • Patience, resilience, and adaptability
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to build positive relationships with challenging students
  • Team player with a proactive approach
  • Level 2 English and Mathematics (GCSE grade C/4 or equivalent)
Desirable Qualifications
  • NVQ Level 2/3 in Supporting Teaching and Learning or equivalent
  • Experience working with students with SEMH/SEND needs
  • Training in de-escalation techniques and positive behaviour management
