Senior Buyer - Raw Materials and PackagingLocation: Lancashire (Hybrid)

About the Role:

On behalf of our client, a leading UK food manufacturer, we are seeking an experienced Senior Buyer with expertise in raw materials procurement and ideally packaging.

This pivotal role offers the chance to join a dynamic procurement team, reporting directly to the Head of Procurement & Supply Chain. You will lead a team, driving procurement strategies and supplier relationships to support the company's ambitious growth objectives.

The Business:Our client has over 100 years of industry expertise and operates a diverse portfolio of trusted food brands. They are a key supplier to UK grocery, independent, and specialty sectors, offering private label goods and additional services such as packaging design, fulfillment, and logistics. With extensive distribution channels and a commitment to innovation and sustainability, they are a leader in their industry.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team focused on raw materials and packaging procurement.
  • Create and implement procurement strategies to ensure continuity of supply and cost efficiency.
  • Build and maintain strong supplier relationships to guarantee timely delivery, quality, and value.
  • Conduct market analysis to identify trends, opportunities, and potential new suppliers.
  • Negotiate contracts and pricing agreements, achieving favorable terms for cost and quality.
  • Collaborate with production, planning, and logistics teams to align material availability with production schedules.
  • Monitor supplier performance, risk management, and compliance with environmental standards and regulations.
  • Drive cost-saving initiatives and process improvements without compromising quality or delivery.
  • Oversee procurement budgets and present regular reports with actionable insights.
  • Ensure raw materials and packaging meet all quality and regulatory standards.

About You:

  • Essential:

    • Minimum of 3 years' experience in procurement, with a strong focus on raw materials and packaging, ideally within FMCG.
    • Exceptional negotiation and contract management skills.
    • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills, both internally and externally.
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a focus on cost optimization and process improvements.
    • Proficiency in procurement software and Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Desirable:

    • Proven leadership skills.
    • CIPS qualification or relevant degree.
