About the Role:

Our client, a Local Authority are seeking a Democratic Services Officer join their Democratic Services team. You will play a pivotal role in ensuring the efficient operation of the Council's decision-making bodies, working closely with elected Members, senior officers, and other key stakeholders. This is an exciting opportunity for someone with a strong background in local government committee management and a passion for public service.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Organise and manage meetings in line with the Council's procedure rules and legislation. This includes agenda planning, preparing reports, attending meetings, and producing accurate minutes/decision notes.
  • Provide expert advice to Chairs, Councillors, and trade unions on their roles, responsibilities, and Council procedures, including legislation.
  • Ensure all public registers, including Declarations of Interest and gifts/hospitality, are accurately maintained and published.

Person Specification:

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in committee/democratic administration within local government.
  • Association of Democratic Services Officers (ADSO) Certificate or Diploma.
  • Experience in providing advice during formal meetings.
  • Experience with Scrutiny Committee reviews and policy development.
  • Familiarity with CMIS computer packages.
  • Ability to interpret local government law and provide guidance on Access to Information legislation.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, including minute-taking and report preparation.
  • Political sensitivity and awareness, with the ability to handle confidential and
