An opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, self-motivated and reliable person to be a full-time permanent HGV Driver / Loader to work as part of the team collecting waste and recycling from various commercial sites and locations within and around Blackpool and Wyre. To apply for this role, it is essential that you have:
- A full UK HGV Driving licence
- Driver Certificate Professional Competence
- The physically capability to carry out manual handling activities
Our client is a wholly owned company of the Council, providing Environmental Operations, which include Waste collection, Street cleaning, grounds, and Park maintenance.
About the role
As HGV Driver / Loader, you will collect waste and recycling from various sites and locations. You will be encouraged to train and develop a wide range of skills within the scope of a waste collection and street scene environment. Responsibilities include:
HGV Driver Duties
- Driving of HGV and other vehicles, heavy plant and machinery, including specialist equipment or trailers, refuse Collection Vehicles, Mechanical Excavators, Tele Handler, JCB Loading Shovel, Gritters, Hook Loader skip vehicles, tractors, mowing machines, vans, tipping vehicles and quad bikes
- Completion of all relevant documentation associated with driving duties
- Carry out all vehicle and ancillary equipment safety
- Maintaining the cleanliness of the vehicle cab and external appearance,
- Maintain regular communication with administration office/supervisors
Operative Duties
- Assist in the collection of waste including wheeled bin receptacles and all other forms of highway or tideline debris
- Clear up any wind-blown waste and waste dropped during the collection process
- Use of small hand-held tools and mowers to carryout basic other maintenance
- Street cleansing, refuse collection, grounds maintenance, parks, grass verge and green open space
- Delivery of waste receptacles, information leaflets, letters and other forms of service communication
- Adhering to established safe working practices, following guidance on risk assessments provided
- Act as an ambassador for the service
About you
To be successful for the role of HGV Driver / Loader Operative you will need the relevant licences for the vehicles driven, accompanied by an up-to-date DCPC card and you will have:
- Previously worked in similar frontline service
- Considerable knowledge of road use regulations
- The ability to deal with customers in a polite and friendly manner
- The ability to lift and carry on a frequent and repetitive basis and walk considerable distances.
- Basic literacy and numeracy skills
- Considerable experience of driving vehicles over 3.5 tonne and HGV driving over 7.5 tonne
- Experience in multi drop collections and deliveries
About the hours & rewards
In the role of HGV Driver / Loader Operative, you will work Monday to Friday 39 hours per week and there is on offer:
