Job Overview:

As aPlaterspecializing instructural steel, you will be responsible for preparing, assembling, and aligning heavy metal plates to fabricate large structural components, typically for construction or engineering projects. Working primarily in a local workshop, you will use technical drawings and specifications to mark off, cut, shape, and fit metal plates made of structural steel. Basic welding skills are required to perform tack welding and light welding tasks.

Duties

Reading Interpreting Drawings: Read and work from technical drawings, blueprints, and specifications to understand the required dimensions and assembly for structural steel components.
Marking Off: Accurately mark off plates and steel sections for cutting and shaping, ensuring correct measurements and allowances are made for fabrication.
Metal Plate Preparation: Measure, mark, and cut structural steel plates using various tools, including oxy-fuel torches, plasma cutters, and power tools.
Forming Shaping: Use mechanical tools, such as bending machines, rollers, and press brakes, to form and shape metal plates and beams to the required specifications.
Assembly Fitting: Fit, align, and tack-weld steel plates and structural components, ensuring precision and adherence to design plans.
Tack Welding Light Welding: Perform tack welding and basic welding tasks to temporarily secure parts before final welding is completed by specialized welders.Required Skills Qualifications:

Previous experience working with structural steel in a fabrication or workshop environment.
Proficient in reading technical drawings and blueprints, with experience in structural steel fabrication and assembly.
Ability to perform tack welding and light welding tasks for securing steel components during fabrication.
Knowledge of safety standards in a metal fabrication environment, with a strong commitment to following health and safety guidelines.Hours of Operation:
