SECTION ENGINEER

Location: Newsham

Rate - £400 - £500 per day

Duration - 6 Month Contract (Rolling)

SECTION ENGINEER RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform engineering and the technical advisor role for the packages of work that are assigned to you or within your allocated section of the scheme, providing engineering direction to subcontractors, craftspeople and operatives within your area of responsibility.
  • Manage a team of graduates and apprentices, providing direction, guidance and mentoring; building effective relationships and support junior staff in their development.
  • Set out and determine the location for infrastructural installations and apply designs and plans to provide engineering assistance to site activities.
  • Develop, prepare and review safe systems of work, method statements, permits and quality documentation; ITPs, QRPs and the like.
  • Ensure that all materials used and work performed are in accordance with the specifications
  • Oversee the selection and requisition of materials
  • Manage, monitor and interpret the contract design documents
  • Liaise with any consultants, subcontractors, supervisors, planners, quantity surveyors and the general workforce involved in the project
  • Manage interactions between designers and on-site team to resolve outstanding design and technical queries during the construction phase.
  • Attending regular progress meetings to inform the wider team
  • Carry out day-to-day management of the site, including supervising and monitoring the site labour, junior site engineers and the work of any subcontractors in area of responsibility; liaising with the Sub Agent, Foreman and specialist supply chain to proactively seek safe and efficient solutions on site should any unforeseen issues arise during delivery of the works.
  • Plan the work and efficiently organise the plant and site facilities in order to meet agreed deadlines
  • Carry out records of work including site diaries, output monitoring, progress reports, quality documentation etc.
  • Oversee quality control and health and safety matters on site & prepare reports as required
  • Resolve any unexpected technical difficulties and other problems that may arise.

SECTION ENGINEER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Civil Engineering related qualification (HNC, HND, BSc MSc, BEng, MEng).
  • Demonstrable experience delivering Rail projects, PTS desirable, but rail experience essential
  • Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) mandatory.
  •  Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS) preferable.
  • Other relevant training (preferred includes Appointed Person, relevant lifting training, and temporary works co-ordination) to be listed on CV.
  • Good written and oral communication skills.
  • The ability to manage and control tasks and lead a team
  • Willing to mentor and develop junior staff
  • Experience in some or all of the following: highways delivery in logistically challenging environments including earthworks, drainage, structures, surfacing and associated temporary works. Works in environmentally sensitive areas.
