Metalis Engineering are currently supporting a well-established engineering company specialising in automated machinery is looking for an Installation/Commissioning Engineer to support its expanding client base across the UK and internationally.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an electrically biased engineer with experience in automation and controls to work on state-of-the-art equipment in fast-paced industrial environments.

Role Overview:

Every day will be different - from building and testing advanced automation systems in our Bolton-based workshop to commissioning high-performance equipment at client sites. If you're an electrically biased engineer looking for a role that keeps you engaged, challenged, and growing, this is the one for you!

As an Installation/Commissioning Engineer, you will be responsible for the installation, commissioning, troubleshooting, and maintenance of high-performance machinery. The role requires strong electrical expertise, particularly in PLCs, as well as the ability to work independently and travel regularly to client sites across the UK and overseas.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Install and commission new machinery at client sites, ensuring seamless operation.
  • Diagnose and resolve electrical faults, including PLC system troubleshooting (Mitsubishi FX5 or similar).
  • Carry out upgrades, part replacements, and system modifications to improve reliability.
  • Provide technical support and recommendations to enhance machine performance.
  • Train client personnel on equipment operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
  • Plan and manage installation projects, working to deadlines and client expectations.
  • Complete service reports detailing work carried out and any issues identified.
  • Undertake occasional servicing and maintenance of installed systems.

Requirements:

  • Recognized electrical engineering qualification or time-served apprenticeship.
  • Strong knowledge of PLC programming and fault-finding (experience with Mitsubishi PLCs is an advantage).
  • Background in industries such as manufacturing, FMCG, food & beverage, or automation is essential.
  • Ability to work independently and manage a varied workload.
  • Willingness to travel extensively across the UK, with some international assignments.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
