We are working with Bolton Council to find an Information Governance Officer on an interim basis. Location: Bolton town centre Job Type: Full-timeHourly rate: £17.68 per hour PAYELength of role: Initial 3 monthsWe are seeking an Information Governance Officer to provide essential services to both internal and external customers, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation. This role is crucial for managing information rights and maintaining the integrity and confidentiality of data in accordance with laws such as the Data Protection Act (DPA), Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), and others.Day-to-day of the role:Manage requests under information rights legislation including FOI, DPA, EIR, PECR, RIPA, and any future legislation, ensuring responses are timely and compliant.Conduct internal reviews where dissatisfaction with initial responses to information requests is expressed.Participate in and assist with information governance projects and audits.Provide advice, guidance, and training on compliance with statutory requirements and corporate policies.Interpret legislation for customers and employees to promote good practice and transparency.Support the production of data protection impact assessments for new projects.Assist in the production of data processing and sharing agreements to protect information.Represent the Council in internal and external groups as an Information Governance Officer.Investigate and report on data and information security breaches and recommend resolutions.Develop Information Governance policies, procedures, and standards.Provide advice on information governance administration and protect the Council's reputation in information disclosures.Required Skills & Qualifications:Theoretical and practical knowledge of information governance, security standards, and information rights legislation.Excellent communication skills, capable of presenting complex information accessibly.Strong influencing, negotiating, and decision-making skills.Ability to analyse problems, research and interpret complex information, and develop innovative solutions.Understanding of business process improvement techniques related to information handling.Ability to work under pressure independently, with strong organisational skills to manage competing demands.Good understanding of information security best practices.Proficient in Microsoft Office 365 and case management systems.Experience in developing and delivering training materials.Experience in supporting change management.
