Pastoral Support Role

MAT Recruitment are currently working with a dynamic SEMH Specialist school to hire a Pastoral Support Assistant to join a collaborative team and support young people through their learning journey. This is a Temp to perm opportunity. In this role you will be working with a dedicated team and responsible to the School SENDCo.

The Pastoral Support Assistant will assist the Year Progress Leads in maintaining academic and pastoral overview of students throughout either KS3 or KS4 and moving into Post 16 Education. They will assist the Year Progress Leads in ensuring that all students maximise their progress and attainment by supporting them to remove any barriers to learning. They need to be role models in terms of conduct, dress and professionalism and in the way that colleagues and students are treated. The postholder is expected to support the academys ethos at all times. They will liaise closely with the staff across the academy to ensure that the students pastoral needs are fully met.


Purpose of the Job:

  • Support the Year Progress Leads in overseeing the academic, pastoral and welfare of all students.
  • Work with the SENCo, Pupil Premium Lead, Behaviour Support and SLT to identify needs and deliver and intervention with groups of students and individuals, including delivering alternative provision for identified groups of students.

  • Support positive behaviour through a range of interventions, rewards and consequences, using careful analysis of data to identify students in need.

  • Support the welfare of the students; follow up incidents, maintain accurate and detailed records, meet with parents as required, liaise with appropriate support staff, liaise with outside agencies as appropriate.

  • Support the organisation of any whole year group trips or other activities, such as alternative curriculum days, charity events, options process, enrichment and programmes of revision, as appropriate to the year group.

  • Respond to parental enquiries as appropriate through telephone calls, emails and meetings, and keep accurate records of all communication with parents.

  • Support the monitoring of attendance of all students and work with tutors, the Attendance Officer and Year Progress Leads to maintain excellent attendance across the year group, putting interventions in place as appropriate.

  • Ensure that all students are properly safeguarded at all times

  • Contribute to the personal development of all students.

  • Encourage and motivate students involvement in critical events (e.g. induction, work experience, interviews, career guidance, etc).

  • Offering support to students with welfare problems, through discussion, practical resolutions and where necessary signpost to support

  • Contribute to the mentoring of under-performing students.

  • Support the aims, values, mission and ethos of the academy and participate in a team approach to all aspects of school life
  • Attend and contribute to staff meetings and INSET days as required, and identify areas of personal practice and experience to develop.


Safeguarding

  • Ensure personal understanding of the duties and responsibilities in relation to child protection and the safeguarding of children and young people. This includes understanding of the academy Child Protection Policy, Safeguarding policy and Code of Conduct.
  • Ensure all issues relating to pupils are reported immediately to the delegated member of staff
  • Attend mandatory training and refreshers to ensure a personal and up to date understanding of safeguarding requirements


Health, Safety & Security

  • Ensure a personal awareness of and compliance with, policies and procedures related to health, safety, and security, confidentiality, and data protection
  • Ensure concerns are reported immediately to the delegated member of staff
  • Attend mandatory training and refreshers to ensure personal and up to date understanding of relevant policies and practices

Other Duties

  • The post holder may be expected to carry out duties other than those given in the job description where the level of responsibility is similar and he/she has appropriate qualifications or receives appropriate training to carry out these duties
