S&D Trade Recruitment is supporting our client, a global leader in manufacturing and engineering, in their search for a Production Engineer. Based in Bolton, this well-established company is a specialist in manufacturing, offering both standard and bespoke solutions to a diverse client base.
As a Production Engineer, you will be responsible for engineering and production activities, ensuring that all products meet required specifications. Working closely with the Engineering and Production teams, you will provide technical expertise, costing support, for production tooling and jigs, and contribute to new product development. You will be supported in your professional development, with opportunities for career progression. Hours 38 per week, Monday to Thursday 7.30 am to 4.00 pm and Friday 7.30 am to 12.50 pm. Salary £34,000 -£38,000 dependant on experience.
Production Engineer Responsibilities:
- Read and interpret technical drawings for part manufacturing.
- Ensure correct machine setup and verify programs used by operators, checking of tolerances and machine functions.
- Operate a variety of machinery and equipment, following safe practices for machining including milling, turning, sawing, punching, drilling and assembly operations.
- Competent use of portable power tools, i.e. drill, grinder, jigsaw.
- Perform in-process checks to maintain quality and tolerance standards.
- Provide technical and design engineering support to the production team.
- Maintain and update tool and drawing registers.
- Calculate direct costs of manufacturing jigs and tools and new jig and tool development.
- Create manufacturing drawings for components (training provided).
- Maintain a safe and tidy working environment, following health and safety protocols.
- Support ongoing projects to drive process improvements within the business.
- Create manufacturing drawings for components (training provided)
- Assist with new and existing product manufacturing, working closely with: Production engineering, Quality, Production teams and maximise efficiency.
- Liaise with customers regarding new and existing products.
- Carry out maintenance and repair tasks as needed.
- Undertake project work to drive continual improvement through the business
- Any other reasonable tasks as requested by the Technical & Design Manager
What We’re Looking For:
- Required an HND/HNC in Manufacturing or Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent).
- Ideally you will have a Production or Manufacturing background.
- Must have proficiency in using lathes, milling machines, CNC programming, use of power tools i.e. drills, grinder and jigsaw.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings.
- Experience using CAD software (SolidWorks, AutoCAD Inventor) is desirable.
- Strong problem-solving skills with a hands-on approach.
- Familiarity with continuous improvement techniques.
- High attention to detail and strong organisational skills.
- Effective communication and teamwork abilities.
