Reed Procurement are delighted to be working in partnership with a well established wholesale business located in Bolton who are now looking to recruit a Category Buyer to join their established Procurement team

Our client is seeking a motivated Category Buyer to be responsible for conducting market analysis, leveraging negotiations, and managing suppliers to proactively drive value in sourcing goods and services. This role requires ensuring continuous improvement within the category in alignment with organisational directives.

Day-to-day of the role:
  • Identify procurement needs and develop a Category Strategy to provide clear focus on direction, opportunities, and challenges to ensure competitiveness
  • Negotiate supplier product, service, quality, pricing, and payment terms, ensuring alignment with company policy
  • Manage negotiations for retrospective rebates and monitor target achievement progress
  • Conduct benchmarks and tenders in conjunction with the Procurement Manager
  • Monitor sales, volumes, and service levels, and manage audits to monitor the quality of branded products
  • Measure and monitor KPIs, and engage proactively in Supplier Relationship Management (SRM) for approved and potential supply partners, including frequent supplier review meetings
  • Source new products and suppliers both domestically and internationally
  • Provide expert procurement advice and follow up on member complaints
  • Manage risks and opportunities associated with suppliers and market conditions
  • Update and maintain supplier records and diaries for the category, ensuring all updates are communicated to the committee and membership in a timely manner
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • MCIPS qualified with current membership, or working towards MCIPS qualification at Level 5 – 6, or an undergraduate degree preferably in Business Purchasing and Supply Chain Management or other procurement-related field
  • Minimum of 3 years continuous practical experience in a similar Procurement role
  • Excellent procurement, analytical, and strong negotiation skills
  • Proven track record of results with a high level of business acumen
  • Ability to effectively prioritise and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment
  • Good numeracy and organisational skills
  • Energetic, persuasive, and well-organised
  • Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative, and fast-paced environment
