The Purchasing Manager role will be based at their Head Office in Bolton, where you will have the opportunity to shape and drive the procurement strategy. There is a salary of up to £60,000 dependant on experience. Hours are 37.5 Monday to Thursday 8:30 am - 5:00 pm, Friday 8:30 am - 2:30 pm.

The Role.

We are looking for an experienced and results-oriented Purchasing Manager to oversee all aspects of procurement for our client's business. This role involves developing and executing purchasing strategies, ensuring cost-effective and reliable supply chains, and driving process improvements to meet company goals. As part of our leadership team, you will play a key role in maintaining our position as an industry leader while fostering a positive, high-performing team culture.

Purchasing Manager Key Responsibilities:

Procurement Leadership

  • Develop and execute the company’s procurement strategy to support operational objectives while ensuring budgetary controls and cost-efficiency.
  • Oversee the sourcing, negotiation, and acquisition of raw materials and services to meet business needs.
  • Manage supplier contracts, including payment terms, pricing agreements, and service levels, to ensure long-term value and reliability.
  • Conduct "make or buy" analyses and present strategic recommendations to senior management.

Team Management and Leadership

  • Lead, mentor, and manage the Purchasing Team, including one Purchasing Administrator, to achieve high performance and continuous improvement.
  • Set clear objectives, monitor progress, and provide regular feedback to team members.
  • Foster a collaborative and supportive environment, encouraging professional development and accountability.
  • Implement training and development plans to enhance the team’s skills and knowledge.

Supplier and Cost Control

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers to secure quality products at competitive prices.
  • Collaborate with the Finance Team to monitor budgets and ensure effective cost management.
  • Partner with Research and Design to drive cost savings through innovation, redesign, and process optimisation.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with internal teams to forecast material requirements and ensure timely delivery of supplies in required quantities and quality standards.
  • Support the Sales Team in identifying and introducing new high-margin products to drive business growth.

Systems and Reporting

  • Manage stock and inventory through the ERP system (Syspro), ensuring data accuracy and availability.
  • Produce detailed reports on purchasing performance, supplier metrics, and cost-saving initiatives for management review.

Compliance and Market Awareness

  • Stay up to date with international trade laws, import/export regulations, and industry trends.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations within the procurement function.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Required substantial experience in a Purchasing Manager or similar role, ideally in a manufacturing or industrial setting.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, motivate, and develop a team, fostering a positive and results-driven culture.
  • Strong negotiation and contract management skills, with a proven track record of building effective supplier relationships.
  • Experience with ERP systems, such as Syspro, is highly desirable.
  • Analytical and strategic thinking skills, with a proactive approach to problem-solving and innovation.
  • Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments.
