Assistant Management Accountant - About The Role

This varied role will support the Head of Accounting and Management Accountants with the monthly reporting process for multiple diverse business units. This hands-on position offers the opportunity to engage in various aspects of accounting and forecasting across the business.

Main duties:

  • Assist the Head of Accounting and Management Accountants in the monthly reporting process for one or more business units
  • Ensure all financial reporting is accurate, high-quality, value-adding, and completed within agreed deadlines
  • Process general ledger postings, ensuring correct allocation to GL codes, cost centres, and projects
  • Ensure income and expenses are recorded in the appropriate accounting period, including identifying and processing prepayments and accruals
  • Prepare and reconcile general ledger and intercompany accounts, proactively resolving discrepancies and maintaining accurate ledgers
  • Conduct expenditure analysis and cost control, supporting Management Accountants with feedback for cost centre managers
  • Support cash and treasury reporting for Group requirements
  • Assist in improving process efficiency by identifying automation opportunities
  • Develop an understanding of key profit drivers across business units
  • Prepare VAT returns
  • Compile corporation tax analysis for external advisors
  • Support external and internal audit processes

The successful Assistant Management Accountant will have/be:

  • Part-qualified Accountant working towards a professional qualification (e.g. ACCA, CIMA, ACA)
  • Proactive mindset with a strong desire to learn and gain experience
  • Solid understanding of accounting principles, with the ability to apply double-entry bookkeeping to new scenarios
  • Strong reconciliation skills, ensuring accuracy and consistency in financial records
  • Advanced Excel skills
  • Effective communicator, both written and verbal
  • Strong multitasking skills, able to manage priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, fostering strong working relationships across teams
  • Self-motivated and proactive, with the ability to take initiative
  • High attention to detail, ensuring accuracy in all financial tasks
  • Strong time management and organisational skills, meeting deadlines while maintaining quality standards
  • Analytical mindset, applying a logical approach to problem-solving
