1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant

Prospero Teaching is currently working with a 'Outstanding' Ofsted-rated SEMH School in Bournemouth, Dorset.

We are seeking experienced 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistants to support students aged 11-16 with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs), particularly those with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.

The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting a childs educational journey, personal development, and overall wellbeing, fostering a safe and nurturing environment that encourages success and confidence.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Building positive relationships to provide emotional support and promote resilience.
  • Assisting with individualised learning plans based on EHCPs and SEMH best practices.
  • Encouraging participation in lessons and providing alternative approaches when needed.
  • Promoting the childs social skills, including teamwork and conflict resolution.
  • Supporting behavioural management using positive reinforcement techniques.

About the School:

The school has a supportive and inclusive ethos, valuing diversity and working hard to ensure every child receives the tailored support they need to thrive. Its SEMH provision is well-established, with staff trained in strategies such as restorative practices, trauma-informed approaches, and behaviour de-escalation techniques. The team includes experienced SENCOs and Learning Support Assistants who will provide guidance and collaboration opportunities. Essential Skills and Experience:

  • Experience working with children who have SEN or SEMH needs.
  • A good understanding of strategies for supporting emotional wellbeing and managing challenging behaviour.
  • Ability to create a safe, structured, and engaging learning environment.
  • Up-to-date Safeguarding training (training available if needed).
  • Desirable Skills:
  • Autism/ASD Training and experience.
  • Knowledge of mental health frameworks and intervention techniques (e.g., Zones of Regulation, Emotion Coaching).
  • Qualifications in Childcare, Education, or Special Needs Support.

Eligibility Requirements:
