1:1 Teaching Assistant – Primary School in Bournemouth (SEMH Support)
GSL Education is thrilled to be supporting a fantastic primary school in Bournemouth as they look for a dedicated 1:1 Teaching Assistant to support a pupil with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. The Role:As a 1:1 Teaching Assistant, you will be working closely with a pupil who requires additional support with their social, emotional, and mental health development. Your role will include providing tailored assistance in both the classroom and during social interactions, helping the pupil to engage in lessons, develop positive behavior, and build self-confidence.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide one-to-one support for the pupil throughout the school day, helping them access the curriculum and fully participate in classroom activities
- Develop and implement strategies to support emotional regulation and positive behavior
- Foster a safe, nurturing, and supportive environment where the pupil feels understood and valued
- Collaborate closely with the class teacher and SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator) to develop and adapt individualized learning plans
- Support the pupil in developing social skills and confidence in peer interactions
- Keep detailed records of progress, challenges, and achievements, providing regular updates to the school’s support team
What We’re Looking For:
- Experience working with children who have SEMH needs, whether in a school or other educational settings (desired)
- Strong communication skills and the ability to build trusting relationships with children
- Patience, empathy, and a proactive approach to supporting children with additional needs
- An understanding of strategies to support emotional and social development in children
- A commitment to helping the child reach their full potential, academically, socially, and emotionally
- A relevant qualification (e.g., Level 2 or 3 in Childcare, Teaching Assistant, or SEN-related qualification) would be an advantage
