Job Description

As a SHEQ Manager and a vital member of our Senior Leadership team, you will be instrumental in steering our strategic initiatives to ensure we exceed expectations in quality, safety, and environmental compliance while fostering a culture of continuous improvement.

As a key player in engineering and manufacturing, we are dedicated to maintaining the highest standards of quality, environmental stewardship, and safety.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Strategic Quality and Compliance: As the SHEQ Manager, you will spearhead the development and implementation of the department's strategic objectives. You will ensure that all operations consistently exceed the standards set by ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001 to enhance product quality.
  • Implementation and Maintenance of EN 1090 EXC Class 2: You are tasked with managing the adoption and sustained compliance of the BS EN 1090 EXC Class 2 standards for steel and aluminium structures, guaranteeing that all processes and outputs comply with structural component regulations.
  • Auditing: Formulate comprehensive audit plans and manage detailed internal, supplier, and subcontractor audits to identify gaps and evaluate the effectiveness of existing SHEQ management systems.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients conducting their supplier audits.
  • Accident and Incident Investigation: Take charge of accident and incident investigations, meticulously identifying the root causes and effectively reporting the findings to stakeholders.
  • CAPA Management: Develop and administer corrective and preventive actions to rectify non-conformances discovered during audits and investigations, ensuring continuous improvement across SHEQ processes.
  • Compliance and Monitoring: Maintain strict alignment with SHEQ monitoring metrics, uphold final product quality, and ensure adherence to specific legislation including PED/PE(S)R, Machine Directive [CE/UKCA], and HASAWA.
  • Policy and Procedure Development: Lead the creation, administration, and maintenance of comprehensive SHEQ procedures and policies across the company to meet all applicable standards.
  • Training and Culture: Drive the development of inspection test plans (ITPs) and foster a proactive safety culture within the company. Identify and address training needs, either by sourcing external training providers or conducting in-house training sessions to ensure all team members are knowledgeable and equipped to perform their roles safely.
  • Equipment Servicing and Inspections: Oversee regular servicing and maintenance schedules for all company equipment, including calibrations and safety inspections, to ensure high operational standards and prevent equipment-related issues.
  • Industry Accreditation Maintenance: Continuously maintain and renew key industry accreditations such as Constructionline, CHAS, and Safe Contractor, ensuring the company meets or exceeds all standards required for operational excellence and regulatory compliance.
  • Travel Requirements: This role requires occasional travel within the UK to manage and oversee SHEQ requirements for various projects. You will be responsible for conducting on-site audits, attending meetings with clients, and ensuring that all project sites adhere to our rigorous SHEQ standards. A full UK driving license is essential for fulfilling these duties, as you will need to travel efficiently and independently to various locations as needed.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a similar role, preferably in the engineering or manufacturing sector, with a proven track record in leadership and strategic planning.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of SHEQ regulations and ISO standards, including detailed familiarity with EN 1090 EXC Class 2.
  • Minimum NEBOSH General Certificate or NEBOSH Construction Certificate required.
  • Internal Auditor Qualification in either ISO 9001 or ISO 45001 is a must.
  • Full UK driving License
  • Lead Auditors Qualification in ISO 9001 or ISO 45001 is highly desirable.
  • Valid CSCS card desirable.
  • Responsible Welding Coordinator qualifications are desirable.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with an ability to manage cross-functional teams.
  • Strong analytical, organisational, and communication skills.
