Design Engineer Overview

This position is an opportunity for a skilled Design Engineer to play a key role in developing and optimizing mechanical designs. The role involves creating detailed drawings, collaborating with production and quality teams, and contributing to innovative engineering solutions and processes.

Design Engineer Job Purpose & Duties
  • Create detailed assembly and component drawings from CAD models.
  • Optimize assembly and component designs for manufacturability (DFM) in collaboration with production engineering.
  • Define inspection requirements with the quality team to verify component quality.
  • Develop design concepts to meet specific functional requirements, documenting assumptions, trade-offs, and calculations.
  • Identify and mitigate technical risks using Failure Mode Effect and Analysis (FMEA).
  • Prepare and present technical reports for project reviews and evaluations.
  • Plan design activities and manage technical risks throughout project lifecycles.
  • Provide technical support for creating product manuals, build books, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Implement and contribute to the continuous improvement of New Product Development (NPD) processes.
Design Engineer Skills, Experience & Knowledge
  • Proficient in using CAD systems for creating models and drawings.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to convey technical information effectively.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving abilities with a detail-oriented approach.
  • Ability to collaborate and work effectively within and across project teams.
Experience
  • Formal qualification to degree level (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Significant experience in CAD modeling and technical drawing creation.
Knowledge
  • Understanding of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing principles (ISO).
  • Knowledge of material properties, machining methods, and manufacturing processes.
  • Familiarity with configuration management tools (BoM) and Material Resource Planning (MRP) systems.
  • Technical expertise in machinery, sensor technologies, electrical drive systems, and mechanical transmission systems.
  • Knowledge of hydraulic, pneumatic, and lubrication systems (desirable)
