About the Role

Our client is looking for an organised and proactive Transport Planner to join their team and ensure the smooth, efficient, and cost-effective transportation of goods and services. You’ll play a key role in route planning, vehicle scheduling, compliance, and communication with internal teams and external partners.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and optimize daily/weekly transport schedules and routes based on demand, capacity, and cost-efficiency.
  • Allocate vehicles and drivers according to availability, legal driving hours, and operational requirements.
  • Monitor and track deliveries to ensure timely and accurate completion.
  • Liaise with drivers, warehouse teams, and customers to manage changes or delays.
  • Maintain up-to-date records of transport activities, incidents, and compliance documents.
  • Analyse transport data and KPIs to identify areas for improvement and cost savings.
  • Ensure all transport operations comply with relevant legislation, health and safety, and environmental standards
  • Maintain up to date records in the transport management system ( Syrinx) and prepare jobs for invoicing
  • Raise movement orders for plant machinery, ensuring movement orders are in place prior to delivery of the products that fall within STGO.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in transport/logistics planning or a similar role.
  • Strong understanding of transport regulations, including drivers’ hours and vehicle compliance.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Proficiency with transport planning software and MS Office.
  • Effective communication skills with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to work under pressure and adapt to fast-paced environments.
  • Good geographical knowledge of the UK
  • Experience working in a fast paced and pressured environment
  • Able to meet strict deadlines

Desirable

  • Knowledge of route optimization tools (e.g., Paragon, SAP TM, Fleetmatics).
  • CPC qualification or equivalent.
  • Experience in working within FMCG, retail, or distribution sectors.
