Junior Buyer - West Yorkshire | Up to £32k Basic Salary | Hybrid Role (2-3 Days in the Office), 37 Days Holiday (including BH), Pension, BUPA, Staff Discount

Are you an aspiring Junior Buyer with a passion for the retail sector? An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Junior Buyer for Electrical, to join a dynamic and growing team based in West Yorkshire. This hybrid role offers the perfect balance of office and home working - with only 2-3 days per week required in the office.

Key Responsibilities of the Junior Buyer, Electrical:

  • Manage and develop the supply base to execute a sourcing strategy that balances margin maximisation with flexibility to respond to market demands.
  • Deputise for the Buyer during their absence, ensuring smooth performance of the department.
  • Review in-season trading, providing key insights to the Head of Buying.
  • Minimise overstocks while ensuring profit and service potential are maximised.
  • Develop and deliver own and branded ranges based on customer demands and profitability.
  • Propose and develop seasonal product strategies aligned with product performance, customer needs, and market trends.
  • Collaborate with the Merchandiser and QA to review departmental strategy and targets for each product area.
  • Work with various teams including Design, Marketing, and E-Commerce to ensure timely product launches through effective critical path management.
  • Set sales targets and agree range plans, stock flow, and margins with the Merchandiser to ensure the right stock is available at the right time.
  • Maintain a thorough market knowledge and awareness of competitors' strategies to deliver a commercial product range.
  • Ensure all products meet quality standards and legal regulations, while placing orders on time and within the critical path.
  • Support the development of Assistant Buyers / BAA's to build team capability.
  • Provide recommendations to Marketing and E-commerce on products for editorial content, emails, and promotions.
  • Agree objectives with direct reports and guide them in managing their performance and professional development.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable regulations and company policies.

Required Skills:

  • Strong proficiency in MS Office, particularly Excel.
  • High level of commercial awareness and ability to analyse data quickly and take action.
  • Proven experience within a retail buying team, especially within the Homes/Electrical category, with responsibility for managing your own range.
  • Strong knowledge of the competitor landscape in retail, home shopping, and online markets.
  • Understanding of core target customers and the end-use of the products.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally to develop and execute marketing plans to meet KPIs and customer needs.
  • Excellent organisational skills and the ability to prioritise effectively while working at pace.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Flexible, positive, and adaptable approach to work with strong influencing skills.
  • A minimum of Maths and English Grade C or equivalent.
  • Ability to commute to Bradford city centre and travel occasionally for business, which may include overnight stays.

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience in electrical buying is an advantage.
  • Knowledge of buying processes and supplier liaison.
  • Extensive experience working with brands and managing the workload of junior staff.
  • Trade analysis and reporting experience.
  • Experience in devising and delivering strategies for product sign-offs.
