Primary SEN Teaching Assistant

Location: Bradford, West Yorkshire

Contract Type: Monday-Friday (Full-Time - 8:30am-3:30pm) -Term Time Only

Salary: 84-95 a day

Start Date: September 2024

Veritas Education are working with a vibrant and inclusive primary special school in Bradford. The school is committed to providing a nurturing and stimulating learning environment for the students. The students have a range of needs including learning difficulties, Special Educational Needs (SEN), Social and Emotional Mental Health (SEMH), Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD) and challenging behaviours.

Veritas Education are currently seeking a dedicated and passionate primary Special Educational Needs Teaching Assistant.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with the class teacher to support the learning and development of students with Special Educational Needs (SEN).
  • Provide one-to-one or small group support, adapting teaching methods and materials to meet the individual needs of students.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive learning atmosphere, ensuring all students feel valued and supported.
  • Follow Individual Education Plans (IEPs) to meet the student's needs and ensure progress.
  • Collaborate with other professionals, such as speech therapists and physio therapists to create a comprehensive support network.
  • Assist students with intimate personal care when required.
  • Communicate with the students' using PECS, Makaton, and British Sign Language.
  • Interact with the children throughout the school day and assist on the playground.
  • Be confident with behaviour management and de-escalation strategies (Level 2 Team Teach).

Requirements:

  • Proven experience supporting adults and/or children with SEN/SEMH is essential.
  • Personal experience supporting a family member with SEN/SEMH is also valued.
  • Level 2 Team Teach is essential, although this training can be offered by Veritas.
  • Safeguarding training is essential, although this training can be offered by Veritas.
  • GCSE English and Maths is essential.
  • Strong knowledge of SEN is essential.
  • Strong communication, empathy, and patience are crucial. The ability to handle challenging situations with calm and professionalism is a must.
  • A dedication to improving the lives of students with complex needs and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Willingness to adapt to the varying needs of students and the school environment.
  • A moving and handling qualification is preferred.
  • Candidates must hold or be willing to apply for an enhanced DBS upon registration.
  • Have proof of eligibility to work in the UK.
