We are working with a national firm who are looking to bolster their property development team as a Quantity Surveyor. This role offers a fantastic opportunity to contribute to diverse projects across the UK, ranging from refurbishing commercial properties into residential spaces to providing civil engineering solutions for the construction and telecoms industries.
Day-to-day of the role:- Calculate material quantities and labour costs per project.
- Prepare and analyse project costings for civils tenders.
- Prepare tender and contract documents alongside the Operations Director, supported by our Architect, Project Manager, and Build Managers for Property Development & Civils Projects.
- Track changes to the design and/or construction work and adjust budget projections accordingly.
- Measure and value the work done on site.
- Handle financial and legal challenges.
- Value completed work and keep the risk register up to date.
- Prepare handover packs in a timely manner to ensure on-time invoicing for civils projects.
- Conduct cost estimates and prepare budgets for construction projects.
- Work with our Procurement Manager to source and obtain competitive prices for materials, equipment, and labour.
- Monitor project costs throughout the construction process and identify any potential cost overruns or savings.
- Prepare and submit progress reports, payment applications, and final accounts.
- Collaborate with project managers, architects, engineers, and contractors to ensure that projects are completed on time and within budget.
- Conduct site visits to assess progress and verify compliance with contractual requirements.
- Evaluate variations and claims submitted by contractors and recommend appropriate actions.
- Maintain accurate records of all financial transactions related to the project alongside our accounts team.
- At least 10 years of experience in the construction industry with demonstrated experience in property development, fit-out, and civil engineering projects.
- Good IT skills and the ability to learn how to use specialist software.
- Excellent relationship-building and interpersonal skills.
- Strong team-working abilities.
- Effective negotiation skills.
- Attention to detail and a methodical approach to work.
- RICS – Chartered Status is desired but not required.
