Braintree District Council have an exciting opportunity for an HGV Technician to join the Fleet Workshop team.

Location: Braintree, Essex

Salary: Up to £37,675 per annum

Job Type: Full-Time, Permanent

Schedule: 37 hours per week, Monday - Friday

HGV Technician – Purpose of the Role:

We are looking to bring on an HGV Technician to provide high-quality maintenance of the Council's Heavy Goods Vehicles (HGV), following DVSA standards and legal requirements. You will work efficiently as part of a team to maximise cost-effectiveness as well as vehicle efficiency and availability.

HGV Technician – Key Responsibilities:

Working in within the fleet workshop, you will form part of the team looking after the maintenance and servicing needs of the Council’s mixed fleet of heavy and light goods vehicles, plant and machinery.

One of your key responsibilities will be to ensure vehicles are serviced and maintained according to the schedule and to DVSA standards, manufacturer’s procedures, the Council’s Operators Licence and relevant legislation.

Other duties will include diagnostic work, preparation for MOT’s, running repairs, roadside breakdown and recovery, welding, completion of paperwork and accurate maintenance of records.

HGV Technician – You:

- Hold a recognised qualification in engineering or motor vehicle repair and maintenance OR relevant experience

- Valid category C driving licence (or willingness to achieve this within 6 months)

- Experience of repair and maintenance of a wide variety of HGV vehicles, ideally including refuse vehicles

- Self-motivated and can work unsupervised, managing own time effectively

- Positive team player with strong communication skills for colleagues, managers and suppliers

- Flexible with working hours, as shift cover and weekends on a rota basis is required
