Role Overview:

We have exciting new opportunities for DevOps Engineer Apprentices to support a large, complex client programme based in London. You will gain the opportunity for rapid on-the-job learning combined with rigorous structured training and mentoring to support your journey towards becoming a Systems Engineer/Software Developer/DevOps Engineering professional.

Roles & Duties:

You will work on maintaining and enhancing our existing solutions, architecting, and developing new customer solutions, and providing technical support to our users.

In return, we will provide a supportive work environment with the flexibility to participate in scheduled work release training. Whilst in the workplace, you will receive continual coaching, help and guidance and the opportunity to work across several key Infrastructure, Cloud and Applications teams.What you will be doing?

  • Writing and maintaining scripts in a virtualisation environment (AWS / Azure / VMWare / Azure Stack)
  • Writing and maintaining scripts for a Software Defined network
  • Contributing to the DevOps pipelines; Plan, code, build, test, release, deploy, operate, monitor
  • Use of tools as a DevOps Engineer, such as repos, version control, testing, deployment etc. These will include open-source type tools, e.g. Git, Jenkins, Selenium, and vendor specific such as AWS, Microsoft Azure and VMWare.
  • Work with scripting and coding languages such as Python, JSON, .NET, Powershell
  • Understanding and documenting the existing infrastructure and CI/CD processes including the integration of security and quality tooling
  • Developing CI/CD pipelines using Powershell for greater reliability and reduced downtime
  • Plan, design, and build IP Networking and physical networks.

Desired Skills:

  • Excellent practical knowledge of networks fundamentals, TCP/IP, HTTP, DNS, DHCP, Firewalls etc.
  • Strong knowledge of Azure/AWS cloud infrastructure providers
  • Strong experience implementing and administering load balancing and reverse proxy’s (NGINX)
  • Experience of administering and deploying development CI/CD tools (Jira, Jenkins, Git, Terraform)
  • Experience with infrastructure scripting solutions such as PowerShell
  • Significant experience with Windows and Linux operating system environments

Entry Requirements:

  • The learner must have completed a Level 3 Software Development Apprenticeship with QA or have an equivalent qualification with another training provider
  • OR an A-level in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics
  • (STEM) subject and a successful completion of our aptitude test
  • OR a BTEC Diploma in IT and a successful completion of our aptitude test
  • OR 2 years’ experience in a relevant role and successful completion of our aptitude test

You may also have a combination of qualifications and experience which demonstrate the minimum foundation needed for the programme. In this instance you could still be considered for the programme.

If you hold international equivalents of the above qualifications, at the time of your application you must be able to provide an official document that states how your international qualifications compare to the UK qualifications.
