The Role

The role of the Quantity Surveyor is to manage cost effectiveness from the initial stages of the project to the final costs.

This includes responsibility for minimizing project costs and enhancing value for money while ensuring that the project meets all legal and quality assurance requirements.

Roles and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Preparing and managing project budgets and forecasts
  • Conducting cost analysis and ensuring financial control throughout the project lifecycle
  • Preparing tender and contract documents, including bills of quantities
  • Managing the procurement process, including sourcing and appointing subcontractors and suppliers
  • Evaluating and negotiating subcontractor and supplier quotations and agreements
  • Administering contracts and ensuring compliance with contract terms and conditions
  • Monitoring and controlling project costs to maximize profitability
  • Preparing and submitting interim valuations and final accounts
  • Managing change orders and variations, ensuring accurate assessment and timely approvals
  • Conducting risk analysis and implementing mitigation strategies to minimize financial exposure
  • Liaising with clients, subcontractors, and stakeholders to resolve financial and contractual issues
  • Ensuring accurate and timely reporting on project financial performance
  • Providing leadership and guidance to junior surveyors and team members
  • Staying updated on industry standards, regulations, and best practices
