Job Title: Principal Accountant

Hourly Rate: 340.83 per day PAYE or 429.00 per day Umbrella

Location: The post will be required to work across two council premises in Brentwood and Rochford

Duration: 3-month temporary contract, with view for further extension thereafter

We are currently recruiting for a Principal Accountant on behalf of our public sector client based in Essex.

Key duties:

Formulate and develop the General Fund and Revenue Account (HRA) Capital Programme, monitor programmes and produce reports

Oversee and lead on the Treasury Management function, including the management of the Council's cashflows, its banking, money market and capital market transactions

Develop the Capital and Investment Strategy which includes the Treasury Management Strategy

Help develop the HRA's 30-year Business Plan

Plan and coordinate the final accounts process including liaison with external audit

Act as the leader advisor on technical accounting, including Collection Fund, Pensions and VAT

Key skills/knowledge:

Sound understanding of public sector (local government) finance and legislation

Knowledge of treasury management

Knowledge of technical areas of local government finance

Experience of dealing with auditors

Proven experience in the production of Annual Statement of Accounts
