Commercial Manager - Defence
Midlands (UK)
Our client is a privately owned forging and machined components supplier in the Midlands who has a considerable expertise in supporting the UK and global defence sector. Working closely with the existing commercial and business development teams, this senior level Commercial Manager (Defence Contracts Manager / Senior Defence Officer) will oversee the preparation, negotiation and management of all Defence projects and business in the UK, from all stages from acquisition of project to contract closure.
Based primarily from the Midlands manufacturing site and with candidates requiring to be SC (security cleared), the role will:
- Manage all Defence contracts including supporting the development of new opportunities and services within the Defence industry, with a particular focus on Prime Defence suppliers and direct MOD contracts and opportunities
- Manage the preparation of the prequalification response submissions to customers with the objective of securing an invitation to bid
- Ensuring that cost estimates are provided with support from Manufacturing Heads and the Defence Team
- Delivering annual and quarterly Defence budgets
- Provide guidance and leadership to the Defence Team
- Lead commercial and contractual negotiations
- Provide overall commercial leadership, guidance, and expertise in support of Defence sales programs
- Provide engineering support and participate in delivering engineering solutions
- Work closely with key stakeholders to deliver profitable commercial and contractual solutions ensuring the commercial and contractual risks are mitigated and required governance is followed
- Build and maintain close contact between the company with UK MOD personnel and Prime Contractors that lead new product sales, services, and solutions
- Define requirements for flow down to suppliers, subcontractors and co-contractors and ensuring that financial risks are assessed in the project/contract
- Supporting the management of customer, supplier, and partner relationship - building trust and confidence through regular and open dialogue
With experience from working within the Defence sector and working with relating prime businesses, candidates should also have experience of:
- Experience with working with Prime businesses and/or the MOD on a range of proposals and contracts
- Proven lead in negotiation and contract management activities
- Proven engineering knowledge and experience, ideally working within the Defence, heavy engineering sector - forging/metals awareness would be ideal
- Prioritising own workload according to demand, deadlines, and business priorities
