Role Objective:

This is a critical and varied 6-month interim role reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO). You will have overall strategic responsibility for the Treasury activities of the Group, including the effective management of the Group’s funding and liquidity, banking and rating agency relations, foreign exchange and interest rate risks, finance and credit risk. The role also encompasses leading the enterprise-wide risk management and insurance functions.

Overall, this is a large leadership role providing critical support to the CFO with significant exposure to the Chief Executive Officer and Board.

Group Treasurer Responsibilities:

As an interim Group Treasurer, you will be accountable for developing the company’s Treasury strategy that enables us to have robust plans, processes, and controls in place, approved by the executive team and Board, to ensure that business can:

  • Fund its significant investments during the next regulatory cycle
  • Maintain a level of liquidity
  • Manage exposure to movements in interest rates to provide an appropriate degree of certainty as to our costs of funds and alignment with our regulatory allowances.
  • Appropriately manage exposure to counterparty credit risk across bank deposits and derivative products.
  • Manage foreign exchange exposure.
  • Maintain an investment-grade credit rating and act as the main point of contact with rating agencies.

Other responsibilities include:

  • Working closely with SMT peers across the business, including Investor Relations, Strategy & Regulation, Customer, and Operational areas to ensure an aligned strategy and approach.
  • Working with the Trustees of our Defined Benefit Pension Schemes to ensure appropriate investment policies and broader risk management practices are applied. Acting as company lead on triennial pension valuations, working with the pension advisors to deliver a valuation strategy and balanced outcome for all stakeholders.

Experience:

To succeed in this role, it is expected that you will have:

  • Membership of the ACT or be a fully qualified Accountant with significant finance experience and proven experience in a significant treasury position within a leading FTSE 100 or FTSE 250 company.
  • Dynamic and collaborative leadership with excellent communication and influencing skills at all levels.
  • A strong ability to build successful working relationships with internal and external stakeholders from diverse backgrounds.
  • A relentless drive for continuous improvement, with the ability to innovate and anticipate unexpected issues and challenges as they arise.
  • An excellent track record of engaging and influencing at Executive and senior leadership levels and delivering presentations to boards in large corporate settings (e.g., FTSE).
  • Proven track record of successfully leading and delivering complex, group-level projects.
  • Experience operating at a broad strategic level and the ability to dive into detail given the breadth of content matter.
  • Proven track record of working within a highly confidential and price-sensitive environment.
