Childcare Solicitor

West Midlands Local AuthorityRate: £50-£60 per hour - Negotiable DOEFlexible Hybrid Working

As a Childcare Solicitor, you will advise on and manage a diverse and challenging caseload involving child protection, education, adoption, Deprivation of Liberty (DOL) cases, and public law proceedings.

This is a hands-on role with responsibility for conducting legal proceedings in Family, High, and County Courts. You will act as an advocate, including handling contested hearings, and play a key role in managing complex legal matters, often under time-sensitive statutory deadlines such as the 26-week care proceeding target.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage complex childcare cases including adoption, DOL/LPS, and safeguarding matters.
  • Represent the Council in court and conduct advocacy in multi-day contested hearings.
  • Provide clear legal advice to Children's Services.
  • Contribute to policy development and service improvement plans.
  • Stay informed on legal developments and apply best practice.

About YouWe're looking for a qualified Solicitor or Barrister entitled to practise in England, with substantial experience in childcare law and public sector legal services. You'll need:

  • In-depth knowledge of child protection law, DOL/LPS, and adoption legislation.
  • Proven track record of handling complex and high-risk legal cases.
  • Advocacy experience in Family Courts and managing multi-day hearings.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a strong team ethic.
