Head of Legal (Sole Counsel) role

West Midlands based

Salary c.100k+ plus car plus bonus

We are exclusively supporting an international manufacturing business as they look to recruit their first dedicated legal counsel to manage legal and commercial risk, regulatory compliance and create a robust operating environment to support continued business success.

This is a key management appointment and offers significant scope to gain experience across an international organisation at an exciting time of strategic growth. Reporting to the hugely personable and commercial CFO, the Head of Legal will support the overall strategy from a legal perspective and minimise legal risk.

You will embrace managing a wide variety of areas including commercial contracts, IPIP, M&A , employment, real estate agreements, as well as overseeing strategy and providing advice on litigation activities, risks/ controls, taxation and other related activities. You will also ensure a strong working relationship with external advisers across various jurisdictions.

As the first Head of Legal you will

- Design, roll out and manage new process and policy

- Develop long term risk strategies

- Handle a broad spread of in-house commercial work

- Train and develop key leaders across the business

- Support moves in to new markets and regions

- Identify and manage external advisers across the regions

- All whilst acting as a strategic adviser to the Board, CEO, and international leadership teams.

We are ideally looking for the following:

  • Experience (circa 8+ years PQE) gained in a similar industry environment
  • Solid judgement, business acumen and understanding of multi-national business operations in the manufacturing sector
  • Strong negotiation and commercial skills
  • A self-starter with a hands-on, pragmatic approach to problem-solving
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Proven interpersonal abilities including presentation and influencing skills at Board and Senior Leadership Team level

You must operate with a high degree of business ethics, integrity and gravitas and be comfortable being part of a close leadership team.

The role will suit either a senior legal counsel in a bigger organisation looking to drive a function and directly support the Board and grown with the role. Or perhaps and existing head of legal or sole counsel from the manufacturing sector who has the breadth and depth and enjoys building something from scratch and driving a culture change.

Location - South of Birmingham HQ so easily commutable from Birmingham, West Midlands, Warwickshire, Solihull, Worcestershre.

Leadership team typically on-site 4 days a week with flexibility around that given international nature of the business

A small amount of international travel (5-10% potentially)

Salary c.100-115k basic + car + bonus etc
