If you’re an Engineering graduate with a keen eye for detail and an enquiring mind; who enjoys solving problems, and documenting data, then this could be ideal .

It’s a very important job, focusing on quality, and ensuring the production process flows well, and is documented properly.

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING

Casting is a process where molten metal flows into a mold (in this case made of sand), and is allowed to solidify, taking the shape of the mold. Complex shapes can be made, which are then used as components; for example it may be a part of an engine.

The components are used by manufacturers across a wide range of industry sectors: defence to aerospace; motorsport to marine. And loads more.

It’s not always easy to get the casting part right; part of your job will be to look at samples check for any flaws, working out how they happen and working with the production team to remedy it.

You’ll be checking customer drawings for specifications, and deciding if the job can be done internally or needs to be outsourced. And there will be lots of documentation to complete, for example logging temperatures.

There will be loads of data to gather and you’ll be doing this yourself; then interpreting it and resolving any issues.

And you’ll be producing reports for customers; updating them on progress, and making them aware of any issues.

You probably won’t have any experience with most of this, and that’s ok as full-training is provided.

FUTURE PROSPECTS

This is a great starting point for the long-term career with the business; you’ll get to see all areas of the business and have contact with customers.

Others have started in the role and moved into areas such as operations, or projects; and into positions including process lead, and management. It’s a great stepping stone.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

An engineering degree is essential. Ideally Mechanical, Aerospace, or Automotive. But others will also be considered.

WHERE YOU’LL BE DOING IT

The offices are in Bridgnorth, a very picturesque town in Shropshire. It’s commutable from areas including Shrewsbury, Telford, Wolverhampton, Kidderminster. And areas to the west of Birmingham, for example Dudley, Kingswinford, and Stourbridge. But you’ll probably need your own transport as the public transport isn’t great.
