Position: Fire Design Engineer

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the site-wide expert for Temporary Fire Alarms & Detectors Design
  • Support permanent installation, temporary fire alarm engineers, and the Site Wide Team
  • Identify, reduce, and eliminate fire-related risks
  • Prepare designs, calculations, sketches, and diagrams to prevent fire spread and meet fire strategy
  • Incorporate fire safety procedures into designs, including emergency exits and fire alarms
  • Ensure site installations and compound areas comply with required fire standards
  • Lead and coordinate temporary fire alarm design requirements
  • Attend coordination meetings and liaise with installation teams
  • Prepare and manage planning schedules for temporary fire alarm designs
  • Coordinate with suppliers and quantify alarm equipment needs
  • Maintain design records and risk registers
  • Witness testing of commissioned alarms and sign off design compliance certificates
  • Support audits and maintain weekly temp fire design records

Key Deliverable's:

  • Lead temporary fire alarm & detector design to support installation team
  • Maintain planning schedule and provide weekly progress reports
  • Coordinate end-to-end installation and witness test process
  • Update and maintain temp alarms risk register and site layout
  • Participate in and support fire audits
  • Organise and update weekly alarm tests

Required Qualifications and Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in alarm & detector design, installation, and commissioning
  • BAFE certification and Fire Alarm and Detection certification (BS 5839)
  • Knowledge of Fire Safety Order 2023
  • SMSTS site safety training or CCNSG Safety Passport
  • Proficiency in CAD/3D modeling and MS Office software
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Awareness of UK nuclear site licence conditions
  • Construction site work experience
  • Knowledge of UK Electrical Safety Regulations
  • Understanding of FSO 23 BS 5839 and Fire Extinguishers

Work Environment:
The role involves working across the nuclear island, conventional island, balance of plant, and site-wide compounds, interfacing with various installation teams.
